TVDU what if: it’s Bonnie’s last night in Mystic Falls before she’s leaving town with her family. Klaus pesters her to dance with him and strikes a conversation
Tumblr media
"Rumor has it the Bennetts are moving to New Orleans," Klaus remarked, an amused timbre in his murmur. The serene flow of the music floated through the cafeteria, caressing its contours and pulling the strings of its dancers. However, the repose ambiance didn't entice the spirit of Klaus's dance partner. The edge of Kaus's lips twitched when he felt Bonnie's gloved hand tense and the muscles in her back pulled tautly. Angling his head so he could scour his partner's face, Klaus lowered his eyes to see her look anywhere but him. Bonnie refused to acknowledge him, which was amusing, given they were entangled in a dance. "A magnificent city, if I have to say so myself. You will find the Mikaelsons influence spread all over it. It was my family's home for centuries."
"Until your father chased you out," Bonnie muttered, half-heartedly listening to the Hybrid self-proclaimed bravado. During their slow dance, Bonnie locked eyes with Caroline's concerned gaze. She was with Tyler, but the couple kept casting looks her way. They likely listened in on their conversation, which Bonnie responded to with a relaxed smile. Caroline returned a forced grimace while Tyler glowered at Klaus.
"Unfortunately," Klaus replied, followed his partner's line of sight, and smirked at her fuming friends. Since Klaus led the dance, he wanted to distance them from Bonnie's nosy friends. Away from prying eyes and ears. This was their moment. His movements were subtle, but Bonnie's scowl deepened when she realized Klaus was moving them away from her friends. Trying to isolate them. Bonnie jerked her head to glare at him, and a storm brewed in her glossy green eyes. "It seems I finally have your attention. You should know that ignoring your partner is awful dance etiquette."
"I think forcing someone as your dance partner is even worse etiquette." Bonnie ground her teeth at his easy-going smirk. Klaus ruined her school dance, and it didn't help that he seemed to enjoy riling her up. Why was he even bothering her? She saw through all his attempts to manipulate her to his side. Bonnie never fell for Klaus's schemes. The crazy thing was that he knew that she knew this and still pestered her. "What do you want, Klaus? We paid our dues and then some. Esther can't ever channel the Bennett bloodline again, and we'll stay out of each other's way."
"No diabolical plots, love. I simply wanted a final dance with a worthy adversary." Bonnie's habit of showing disdain for him was why it was so fun to ruffle her feathers. She was on Klaus's radar as both his enemy and a potential ally. Klaus didn't know when Bonnie Bennett managed to seize his attention like this, but she had. The little witch wasn't even aware of the power she held. "Maybe it is best we part ways, as I cannot afford any distractions."
"Careful, it almost sounds like you'll miss me messing up your insane plans." Bonnie scoffed before looking away. After this stupid dance, she would find her friends and spend her last moments with them
"No need to be snippy. You should know that I'm leaving Mystic Falls tomorrow." Klaus shared, and Bonnie spared him a doubtful stare. "Since my mother decided to put it out that the vampire species can end with our deaths, it's only time for witches and werewolves to join hands to conspire against us."
"Poor you."
"Your mother, Tyler's, and Caroline's lives depend on my family's survival, Bonnie. I expected you to care a bit more. Esther won't stop until she eradicates us all. She, nor those allied with her, give a damn about the collateral damage. The consequences of war.
Bonnie suggested, "so why don't you dagger your siblings and hide their coffins where no one can ever find them? It didn't stop you before."
"How vicious." All of a sudden, Klaus pulled Bonnie flush against him. Her breath hitched, and she snapped her head up. Klaus felt her padded nails dig into the fabric of his shoulder and fingers. Bonnie sucked in air through the corners of her mouth before drawing her lips in to stifle the sound. Klaus leaned forward with his mouth hovering near her ear. He whispered, "I will admit that it did cross my mind. It would prevent my enemies from taking advantage of a weakness. However, I was touched by your kin's display of loyalty. It reaffirmed the notion to me that blood is indeed thicker than water." Klaus stood at his full length before two dimples sprouted on his cheeks. His smile tightened Bonnie's muscles, and her body scrambled to run from the predator in front of her. "As often as my family quarrels, when adversaries line themselves at our doorstep, threatening our very existence, we are one. We are ruthless."
Bonnie didn't respond because she couldn't refute his claim. Elijah betrayed them the first time because of his family. They acted as a single unit to stop their eldest brother and mother from ending them. Ultimately, even the self-loathing Finn accepted his true nature and agreed to unlink himself from his siblings. As dysfunctional as they were, the Mikaelson familial bond was no joke. Bonnie wouldn't be surprised if it tightened by the likely witch-werewolf coalition Esther instigated. A clammy shiver ran over Bonnie's spine, thinking of the brewing war that would unleash in the Supernatural community. The Bennetts would stand together with the witches if the circumstances were different. But they suffered enough. After unlinking the Mikaelsons, her family wouldn't take sides. Distracted by her wandering thoughts, Bonnie didn't notice the music stopped and the dance was over. It wasn't until she felt the tug of her hand. She blinked when Klaus pulled her knuckles towards his lips.
Bonnie jerked away and pushed her hands against Klaus's chest to distance them considerably. Her mind scrambled to form a coherent thought, but her thoughts became blank. Feeling her body quiver with indignation as every muscle tensed, Bonnie suppressed, scoffed, and turned around before stomping away.
